What a strange year this has been. Not only in life outside of my hobby, but also life within my hobby. As fireworks starts illuminating the nightly skies across the world, it is hard for me to not reminiscence a bit, and wonder out aloud what I want to do next year.
At the closing of the year, I managed to land myself a new job as an assistant in the local library – a position I’m looking very much forward to enter into!
This not only lifted my spirits immensely, but it also helped to alleviate a lot of uncertainties that has been haunting me throughout the year. Funny how it is easier to plan ahead, once you have a good foundation to work from.
And yes, that was a very intentional segue-way into all of the hobby stuff that I wanted to talk about in this post.
One of the things I learned about myself this year, is that I’m pretty good at painting up big units in a (relatively) short amount of time.
This is in equal parts down to years of practice, but also by finally coming to terms with the fact that all that I paint doesn’t have to be the highest possible standard. Sometimes it’s just nice to paint things to get ’em painted and ready for the table.
Which has lead me into starting up an army for Kings of War this year, and which is going to be one of my main focus points next year.
It is a great project for me, because I don’t have to think too hard on it – just pick some figures I like, add it to my army and get them painted.
There’s no need for additional creative input in order to build the figures, and everything is bought, made, and painted towards the goal of rounding out a 2000 points army. And once done, I’m already dreaming of making another army, and then another, and another…
I can allow myself to be excited for new releases, ponder which unit to buy, what army to collect next – completely engaged in the hobby, but in a less taxing way.
Which also becomes important, as I’m going to focus a lot of time on getting Fireteam Andromeda II written, tested and ready for beta in 2026.
The 15mm bug has bitten me again, as have a couple of ideas I’ve been mulling over. I’ve always wanted to revisit Fireteam Andromeda, but only when I had some exciting new ideas – and I do believe I’ve got it this time around!
Also, with the way the world goes – it’s nice to have a cheaper project in a smaller scale. Who knows, I might even start up Kings of War in 15mm as well!
Finally, I also want to get back into writing blogs again. I have been putting it off for so long, and this post is my way of getting rid of the rust. After all, the only way to get anywhere is by doing it – not by thinking on doing it. So that’s my goal for the coming year.
To do more, and worry less.
